Ballet Principles and Practice
Learn to release energy blocks, reduce tension, increase balance, maximize mobility, and minimize injury. This workshop is both a physical and intellectual approach to understanding ballet technique in depth. We utilize the concepts and philosophy of Elemental Body Alignment System (EBAS) to demonstrate how and why technique works. We will analyze relevant structures and systems of the body, discuss innovative teaching principles, and apply them in daily class. Teachers and dancers alike will find this workshop helpful as a stand alone camp or as a complement to the Adult Ballet Camp. It’s an ACE accredited program for the intermediate and advanced level dancers.
Our primary teacher of this course is Scott Putman, an Associate Professor at VCU Dance and Choreography.He is the creator and master teacher of the Elemental Body Alignment System© (EBAS), a series of exercises designed for structural integrity and supported range of motion. Through anchoring and initiating movements via the pelvis, the body discovers its ability to efficiently articulate movement through experiential anatomy.

We work with two local hotels to provide you the best rates and locations available. The Delta Hotel, at 555 East Canal Street, Richmond VA (804) 788-0900 offers a special rate of $119 per night + tax per room. This includes a refrigerator and is available for single or double occupancy. Self parking is available onsite for $15 per day. There is free downtown shuttle service available for guests, and the hotel is within walking distance of the studios. For more information, click here. Participants are responsible for making their own hotel reservations 30 days in advance to guarantee a room at the group rate. Our caterer, Panera Bread, offers a nice selection of box lunches, including vegetarian, low carb and vegan choices. Lunch is included with your tuition.
Getting to Camp
Richmond International Airport (RIC) is 15 minutes from the hotels. Taxis from the airport are readily available and Uber operates locally. Washington DC’s Reagan and Dulles airports are about 2 to 2.5 hours away. A car is not necessary to enjoy your stay, but it is an added freedom. Richmond is a historic destination, home to numerous museums and Civil War sites. There is also a vibrant restaurant, art and music scene. Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, and Charlottesville are nearby cities of interest.
